Joe began his work as Musical Director in 2008 at Pershore’s Number 8 Theatre with a run of Kiss me Kate with the resident group, PODS. Other highlights here were a NODA nomination for West Side Story in 2010 and a NODA win in 2012 with The Secret Garden. A move closer to home saw Joe become the resident MD for Redditch Operatic Society in 2013 with another Noda nomination for Whistle Down the Wind, and a Noda win with Jesus Christ Superstar in 2014. A handful of shows with Alcester MTC and Dynamik followed this alongside more shows with ROS, leading to more NODA nominations for Witches of Eastwick and White Christmas. 2019 brought yet another NODA success with Cats! 2023 had another NODA nomination for Evita and the show for 2024 was The Hunchback of Notre Dame!
Joe began his choral training as a chorister at Birmingham Cathedral in 1989 and was later a choral scholar there. He was assistant director for Bournville Young Singers for ten years, with whom he toured extensively and performed in many prestigious venues. Concerts included Notre Dame, La Madeleine, Brussels Cathedral, St. Davids Cathedral and Symphony Hall amongst many others. Joe has performed as a guest with many local choirs, including The City of Birmingham Choir and Enchant. Joe is the founder of the barbershop quartet Wax Lyrical and performs with this group at weddings and functions. Joe also has considerable experience of directing school and youth choirs in a variety of settings. Joe is a competent arranger and has been known to dabble in composition!
